Google makes roughly $2 billion in ad revenue each year, and no one knows exactly where it's placing ads.
In fact, ads frequently end up on websites peddling election disinformation or LGBTQA+ hate speech. Google is monetizing harmful content and getting rich from it!
This week we will be delivering a message to Google at Adweek in NYC to stop funding disinformation, and we need everyone’s help to show the tech giant that people all over the world are demanding accountability.
Tell Google: Stop monetizing disinformation and make your publisher data transparent
Most of Google’s publishers – i.e. the websites where the ads are placed – remain anonymous compared to other companies like Amazon which provide transparency. In other words: Google is helping to promote and fund websites spreading climate disinformation and hateful propaganda, and advertisers are kept in the dark about it.
Google claims it’s to protect publishers under threat like in autocratic countries, but the truth is it’s Google’s way of evading accountability for its biggest revenue stream.
It’s time to hold Google accountable.
SumOfUs members have pushed corporations like Apple to adopt a new human rights policy. We can make Google listen this time too.
Join in telling Google: we won’t allow you to make money off hate speech and disinformation
