G4S is making a pretty penny running the government’s immigration detention centres, Brook House and Tinsley House. Reports in the Guardian suggest last year it earned profits of more than 20% -- likely way in excess of what is even contractually allowed
Recent revelations of chaos, incompetence and abuse at Brook House resulted in the suspension of nine staff, after they were filmed mocking, abusing and even assaulting detainees.
And yet G4S bosses refused to reveal the profits it made from running the scandal-hit centre, when asked about the Guardian’s investigation by a committee of MPs.
it’s time the corporation came clean about its profiteering at the expense of the public purse, and safety of the people in its care.
G4S: reveal your profits.
G4S is currently in the process of renewing its contract at Brook House -- the immigration centre in question. That’s despite the latest revelations adding to its already hideous catalogue of incompetence, violence and abuse going as far back as 20 years
G4S is currently in the process of renewing its contract at Brook House -- the immigration centre in question. That’s despite the latest revelations adding to its already hideous catalogue of incompetence, violence and abuse going as far back as 20 years.
According to the corporation's financial performance report at its immigration centres, its trading profit margin at Brook House was 20.7% -- over 3 times the limit set by its contract.
Former MP and activist Sally Keeble, said: “Any company that has a contract that allows 5% profit and takes more than 20% should be investigated by the National Audit Office. This shows exactly why there have been so many problems in the delivery of the service.”
G4S is taking advantage of the system -- its time it came clean about just how much money it's been rinsing out of public services.
Thanks to SumOfUs members like you, we raised enough funds to support Law Centres Network to instruct lawyers in building a case that challenged the government in court over its decision to award G4S the discrimination helpline. We wanted to launch a judicial review to show that the government did not follow the proper procedures when it handed G4S yet another contract.
If we work together, we can challenge corporate giants like G4S in the public interest, and force them to do the right thing.
G4S: Reveal your profits! It's time the public knew the truth.
