Large swaths of the Peruvian Amazon are soaked in oil because of leaky infrastructure from Canadian oil giant Frontera.
Indigenous activists in the area have seized Frontera’s oil wells, in protest of the contamination. This pressure is forcing Frontera to try to get out of its contract.
The only thing standing in the way of getting Frontera out of the Amazon for good is Perupetro, the Peruvian energy regulator. A huge outcry now from Canadians, like you, seeking accountability for Canadian corporations could be the push it needs to sever the contract and get Frontera out of the Amazon for good!
Sign now to get Frontera out of the Amazon!
Frontera is a multi-million dollar oil giant, with headquarters in Toronto and Calgary. It has been extracting oil in the Amazon for over two years, using outdated infrastructure that is leaking oil into the water and ground in Peru. This is causing a wide-spread health crisis in the Indigenous population there, resulting in increased deaths, miscarriages and disease.
Because of Indigenous resistance locally, Frontera is trying to get out of its contract with Perupetro. The energy regulator, however, is still considering whether or not to allow Frontera to leave. We need to pressure Perupetro now to ensure that it makes right decision and to kick Frontera out of the Amazon for good!
SumOfUs has already won victories in Peru, supporting Máxima Acuña, a Peruvian activist fighting the Canadian mining industry and we know that you can make a difference again. With your voice, you can show Peru that Canadians care what happens at the hands of Canadian corporations.
Sign now to kick big oil out of the Amazon!
