Note: The TPP will be signed in a few hours at 2.30pm New Zealand time. Not tomorrow Canada time, as this petition previously stated.
On Thursday, Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland will sign Canada on to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
The TPP is one of Harper's biggest legacies. The sweeping free trade deal will let corporations sue governments in special courts for laws that might hurt their 'expected' profits, and it could severely threaten our access to medication, internet freedom and hurt workers' rights. In short, it's a massive corporate power grab.
We still have a chance to stop the TPP -- in fact, our odds have never been better.
Even though Trade Minister Freeland has pledged to sign the TPP in New Zealand this Thursday, the deal still needs to be ratified -- brought to Parliament for discussion, debate and finally a full vote. Minister Freeland herself has said that “signing does not equal ratifying."
Now that Harper is gone, we finally have a fighting chance to stop this deal in Canada. Over the coming months, we'll have some key chances to come together and make ratifying the TPP a toxic move for Trudeau and his new government, killing it for good.
The real fight against TPP in Canada starts now. Let's build a powerful movement against the this dangerous trade deal and make sure that ratification never happens.

Even though the TPP was negotiated in backroom deals and the text was kept from the public, the just-released text has proven how bad this deal is for Canadians.
Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper's own Trade Minister admitted the deal would only be worth $3.5 billion to Canada. Meanwhile, the TPP would expand provisions under NAFTA that have made Canada the most sued wealthy nation in the world, facing $6 billion in corporate claims from free trade tribunals.
Trade Minister Freeland has yet to take a firm stance on the deal, saying that it's both “too soon to endorse the TPP" or to “close the door" on it.
Let's come together and call on her to get rid of this Harper hangover -- if enough of us speak out, we can convince Freeland to drop this toxic trade deal. It's high time to close the door on the TPP and stand for our interests over corporate profits.
The SumOfUs community, together with allies around the world, has been key to building the global outcry that's delayed this trade deal for over two years. Together, we've disrupted secret negotiations wherever they were happening, from blowing hundreds of conches on the beach in Maui to bringing giant “secret talks happening here" signs to Ottawa. And this week, we're supporting coordinated actions in New Zealand, Australia and the U.S.
Now we need to come together in this final home stretch and push the Liberal government not to ratify the deal.
