Ineos has lodged plans which could permanently close off a section of public road at its Grangemouth site.
The company, who have lodged an application to close the road off to the public with Falkirk council, have said that the move has been taken in the interest of safety.
But locals say the road is a vital link in and out of Grangemouth, and needs to be kept open for public access.
Tell Falkirk Council to keep the A904 open to the public
The company’s refinery business Petroineos has in the past been issued with an improvement notice from the Health and Safety Executive. The firm had failed to take required measures to “prevent major accidents”, where moveable electrical equipment at the site had not been maintained and inspected properly.
The proposal from Ineos had been predicted, with members of Grangemouth Community Council stating in meetings last year it was only a matter of time before Ineos would submit an application.
With enough opposition, we can force the council to reject Ineos’ application and come up with a community-led solution.
We’ve beat back TTIP, told SeaWorld to stop keeping Orcas in captivity, and forced Unilever to compensate its workers. And that was just last year.
When SumOfUs members come together, we have a bigger voice. The kind of change we want to see can only come from people power, not corporate power.
The A904 is a public road. Let’s keep it that way.
