Beheadings, rape and killings – this is what Facebook's moderators in Kenya are forced to watch for as little as $2,20/h.
Brave whistleblower Daniel Motaung spoke out against these dreadful working conditions and now Facebook lawyers are trying to get a court order to gag him. As far as we know, they have never done this to a white whistleblower. This is inexcusable.
Public outrage is the one thing that will make them stop trying to block Daniel from speaking the truth – sign now and let's show Facebook that people everywhere stand with workers and abhor racism.
Daniel is suing Facebook for forced labour, union-busting and human trafficking in Kenya – now the company's lawyers have asked the judge to "crack the whip" against him. Several whistleblowers have denounced the company's behaviour before, but this is the first time Facebook has tried to silence anyone in court. This racist, abusive behaviour can't be ignored.
Facebook pays laughable fees and leaves moderators like Daniel to work in illegal and unsafe conditions – all while taking zero responsibility for those working non-stop to make the social media giant safer.
Facebook execs could have chosen the road of decency, but they’d rather pay millions in legal fees to dodge regulation and increase profit. It's colonialism in disguise. Let's stand up for workers everywhere and show Facebook their racist, abusive behaviour is unacceptable:
