Insure Our Future Global Week of Action: Send an email

Tell AIG, Zurich and Tokio Marine staff why they should stop insuring fossil fuels and Insure Our Future!

It can be hard for staff to see beyond their day job and they can be scared to act differently: we can help them see opportunities and shine a light on what a good transition looks like.

Here are some suggestions for what you can say in your email. But remember, the more personalised the better to make sure the staff receive your email and are moved to take action. Also the emails are all there just in the 'bcc' function, so don't worry if you don't see them.

  • My name is [NAME] and I am from [LOCATION]. [Feel free to mention if you are a client with AIG, Zurich or Tokio Marine and would consider taking your business elsewhere unless you see change.]
  • I am writing to urge you to use your power to stop insuring dangerous fossil fuel expansion and enable the clean energy that will restore health to people and our living planet.
  • Please be the change and protect us in this time of crisis.
  • Play your part in creating a clean, liveable future where our communities and your industry thrives. #InsureOurFuture
  • Use your influence to help insure our future by pushing for:
    • No insurance for new and expanded coal, oil, and gas projects and the companies developing them;
    • Ruling out insurance for the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), Rio Grande LNG & oil fields in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
    • Upholding of Indigenous rights and the Free, Prior, and Informed Consent of impacted communities;
    • Supporting a just transition by saying yes to renewable projects by and for communities most impacted by climate change and poor energy access.
    • [Feel free to share how it makes you feel that these insurance companies continue to insure new fossil fuel projects as the world experiences worsening extreme weather.]
  • [You can share if you have had a personal experience with a climate disaster, or with climate-disaster insurance becoming increasingly expensive or inaccessible.]
