A six-month investigation by Fairfax Media into Domino’s Pizza and its franchisees has uncovered widespread wage abuse, allegations of visa fraud and claims of workers forced to do unpaid overtime. Meanwhile, company profits have soared.
With Domino’s unsustainable low prices - with some pizzas costing as little as $4.95 - it’s no wonder franchisees are crumbling under financial pressure, fuelling illegal wage fraud.
The maths is simple: in the last two years, the cost of ingredients, rent, labour, and other fixed costs are on the rise. The price of pizza has been steadily dropping. Domino’s profits have more than doubled. So who’s picking up the cost?
Every year we’re seeing more convenience chains in Australia being busted for worker exploitation - 7-Eleven, Caltex, McDonalds, Pizza Hut - and now Dominos. So we’re calling for a fairer system, one where company heads and shareholders don’t get to line their pockets with other people’s money.
Join us. Together, we can build a more sustainable food system in Australia. One that respects workers’ rights.
