In two weeks shareholders of Australia’s largest salmon producer, Tassal, will be voting on whether to accept Canadian seafood giant Cooke’s takeover offer.
Local Tasmanian activists who've witnessed first hand the destruction of the salmon industry are traveling up to Melbourne to call on Tassal’s new owners to end the company’s use of deadly seal deterrents. But in order to get inside the shareholder meeting they need a proxy vote from someone who has Tassal shares.
Are you a Tassal shareholder?
This is an opportunity for Cooke to stop Tassal shooting seals and lead the Tasmanian salmon industry to implement world class animal welfare practices.
Together with our friends at Neighbours of Fish Farming we’ll be out the front of Tassal’s meeting drawing attention to its outdated and brutal practices.
170,000 people from around the world have signed the petition calling on the Big Three salmon producers, Tassal, Huon Aquaculture and Petuna, to stop using deadly seal deterrents.
Social media posts shared by SumOfUs members shining a light on Australia’s salmon producers have reached more than two million people. And more than 14,000 of you emailed the CEO of Cooke saying end Tassal’s use of seal crackers and shotguns.
Now it’s time to deliver this message in-person.
