It’s looking increasingly likely that Donald Trump -- according to him, one of the world’s wealthiest men -- doesn’t pay any income tax and hasn’t for decades.
A New York Times investigation revealed that Trump declared a $916 million loss in 1995 to the IRS, which would have allowed him to legally pay zero taxes for at least 18 years. When pressed about his taxes during the first debate, Trump said it made him "smart."
Whatever happens in November, this ridiculous economic alchemy can’t be allowed to continue. It doesn’t matter that it’s “legal” -- it’s still just plain wrong. The truth is that Congress could close this loophole that corporations and the super-rich benefit from overnight -- but they won’t unless we make them.
Tell the US Congress: to reform the tax code to make the 1% pay their fair share.
It’s bad enough that one of the country’s richest men -- who also happens to be running for president -- isn’t paying his fair share of taxes like the rest of us. But taken with the fact that undocumented workers -- targets of some of Trump’s most vicious and violent attacks -- pay roughly $11.64 billion every year in taxes, it’s downright criminal.
Mega-corporations and the super-rich spend millions in lobbying Congress to secure tax laws that let them bend the rules. The only way we can change things is by letting politicians know that if they don’t start making corporations and the wealthiest among us pay their fair share, we won’t send them back to Washington. The Republican presidential candidate is fond of saying there’s only one Donald Trump. Make him the last.
Demand Congress reform our tax laws to make the Donald Trumps of this country pay their fair share.
