The widow of a deceased farmer just filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Monsanto that could lead to the end of cancer-causing RoundUp on our shelves.
For 30 years, Jack McCall sprayed Roundup on his 20-acre fruit and vegetable farm -- assuming, like many farmers and the public, that it was safe. After his diagnosis with rare anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), he stopped using Roundup on his garden -- but it was too late. He died 3 months later.
Now, his wife is taking Monsanto to court, alleging the company KNEW about how dangerous glysophate was all along -- but failed to protect farmers like her husband.
If she wins, she’ll not only get justice for her husband’s death -- she could protect farmers all over the world from dangerous glyphosate exposure.
Can you chip in to help this courageous widow take on Monsanto?
Glyphosate is the main chemical in Roundup, the most widely used pesticide worldwide. Scientific evidence has been mounting for years about how dangerous this chemical is. Finally, it was declared likely carcinogenic to humans last year by the World Health Organization, and the California government is set to become the first U.S. state to add glysophate to a list of cancer-causing chemicals.
Monsanto is so desperate to protect its billions in profits that it is trying to bury the mounting evidence of Roundup’s dangers. It tried to get the World Health Organization report retracted, and now it is suing California to stop Roundup from being listed as a known carcinogen.
We know how aggressive Monsanto is -- we’ve seen it over and over again all over the world as it has sued farmers and even states that try to stand up to it. But the SumOfUs community has come together again and again to take on Monsanto, and together we can help make sure Teri has the support she needs to take on Monsanto.
Can you chip in to help Teri take on Monsanto?
Right now, we’re taking on Monsanto and winning. In March when the EU Commission tried to renew the licence of the glyphosate, they weren’t expecting NGOs, scientists and tens of thousands of SumOfUs members across Europe to demand their governments place our health above the profits. Our pressure already forced a postponement on the vote, and has caused the government to add more restrictions to the use of Roundup.
This a critical time to make sure that stories like Jack and Teri’s of glysophate’s dangers to reverberate across the planet -- and together we can make sure Monsanto can’t get away with its bullying any longer.
