Iman, the last Sumatran rhino in Malaysia, died a few weeks ago.
She was 25 years old and had no children. Thanks to the devastation palm oil production had wreaked on her habitat, there was nobody left for her to mate with.
This annihilation of precious animal habitats could be stopped -- if the world’s biggest companies finally ditched their dependence on cheap, unsustainable, and destructive palm oil. WWF and Greenpeace have revealed that Unilever, Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo, YUM! Brands, Mondelez, and other major players are failing to meet their own targets. Even as Sumatran rhinos -- along with orangutans, pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys and more -- hover at the edge of extinction.
The countdown to 2021 has started and so has the countdown to extinction. You and I need to act fast to force corporations to stick to the palm oil promises they’ve made. With enough money, we can hire a much needed extra campaigner and drive up the pressure with everything from splashy ads to social media blitzes to huge in-person demonstrations. But it all depends on you -- can you chip in before it’s too late?
