Brave volunteers keeping watch over the Mediterranean heard a distress call -- “50 people, many children.” They scrambled to the spot, and caught the Libyan Coast Guard firing shots at desperate families on board a small boat trying to reach Europe.
The volunteers sent a video to the Italian authorities, who are now investigating Libya for ‘attempted shipwreck’. If they hadn’t been watching, who knows what would have happened.
This year alone, 800 people have died trying to cross the Mediterranean. And without organizations like Sea-Watch, which has rescue boats and planes patrolling the waters, the number would be much higher. They’ve rescued 35,000 people from drowning!
It’s hero’s work, and they can’t do it alone. Operating ships and aircraft is expensive, and they rely on small donations from everyday citizens. But if our community comes together, we can pool our money and raise enough to make a real difference. Together, we can save countless lives.
Can you chip in just to help make sure more migrants don’t drown at sea?
