Breaking: One of the TPP chapters was just leaked yesterday and it's great news for corporations but bad for Canadians.
It confirms our worst fears about this secretive trade deal:
- Higher drug prices for life-saving medicine
- Our Internet will be censored
- It'll cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
With the election just 9 days away, we can stop this deal by electing a leader who opposes this secretive and undemocratic deal. So that means that right now we need to put pressure on all the candidates to reject the Trans Pacific Partnership deal.
Sign the petition to call on all party leaders to reject the TPP to protect Canadian jobs, innovation and democracy.
Millions of people from all stripes have spoken out against this dangerous deal that includes 40% of the global economy. The concerns keep mounting, from auto sector job losses, to farmers whose livelihoods are under threat, rising healthcare costs, and massive attacks on Internet freedom.
Already, the NDP and Greens have come out against the TPP, and the Bloc has expressed significant concerns. If we can get Liberal leader Justin Trudeau to come out against TPP, we're that much closer to stopping the deal on October 20th.
The leaked chapter shows that the TPP will lengthen copyright protections by 20 years, making it harder for generic drugs to enter the market, for artists to build on public domain works, and for innovators to create new technologies.
It could also lead to Internet censorship by forcing internet service providers to take down content that "might" be in violation of copyright laws.
This trade deal has been negotiated behind closed doors with corporate lobbyists sitting at the negotiating table. Even elected officials were locked out of the negotiating room. The worst part is that we will not be able to see the full text of the deal until after the Canadian election. There is too much at risk. We have to stop this deal now.
Tell our leaders to reject the TPP. Sign the petition today!
For years, the SumOfUs community has been fighting against deals like the TPP because they will hand massive powers to corporations. Hundreds of thousands of you have taken action to stop these trade deals across the world, and the tides are starting to turn.
Leaders across the world are speaking out. In the United States, the two leading candidates for the Democratic nomination, Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, have already rejected this secretive trade deal.
Now it's time for all of Canada's leaders to follow suit and reject the TPP.
