Cameroonian activist Nasako Besingi has been fighting against Herakles Farms palm oil plantation for years. Now, he’s been jailed again, without charges, for fighting to protect one of the largest rainforest basins in Africa.
Herakles Farms has worked with the Cameroonian government to try to intimidate Besingi into silence before. Now it has the power to stop its intimidation tactics and use its power to release Besingi.
A huge outcry now to Herakles Farms could pressure it to do the right thing and help release Besingi from his unlawful jail cell.

Herakles Farms is a US-based palm oil company with headquarters in NYC. In 2013, through intense political pressure from the US government, Cameroon signed over 73 000 hectares of pristine rainforest land to Herakles Farms for palm oil development. This farm would destroy a portion of one of the largest rainforests in Africa and home to tens of thousands of plant and animal species, including critical gorilla habitat.
Nasako Besingi has been working tirelessly for years, suffering through being jailed, threatened and fined for his role in organizing his local community against Herakles Farms’ bid to destroy this incredible rainforest. Now, he’s been arrested again during the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon.
Herakles Farms has the opportunity now to force the hand of the Cameroonian government by calling on them to release Besingi.
SumOfUs has worked with other land defenders before, like Máxima Acuña in Peru. Because of concerned people like you, we have been able to protect land defenders in their fight against corporate land grabs. Your voice now can help ensure that Besingi’s important voice in Cameroon is not silenced.
Sign now to release Nasako Besingi from jail!
