It’s horrible to imagine: dogs shot in the streets, in broad daylight and in front of children. Dying dogs left to suffer, their mouths bleeding and their foggy eyes calling for help.
This is happening right now in Tangiers, Morocco, where municipal workers are slaughtering hundreds of dogs in preparation for a visit by FIFA officials to assess Morocco’s World Cup bid.
We can't let this go on. Morocco's national government has already signed an agreement with the national veterinary authority to prohibit the killing of dogs -- but Tangiers is flat-out ignoring it. Join the call and share widely:
Morocco: stop Tangiers slaughter of dogs, now!
Tangiers is home to 30000 of Morocco’s 3 million homeless dogs. If we don’t put an end to this slaughter, that means 3 million dogs are at risk of shooting, poisoning, and death – because officials will see there are no consequences. What’s even worse is that many of the killed dogs have already been neutered and vaccinated!
Now Moroccans and animal rights activists are demanding the city ends its brutal treatment of dogs, even suing the municipality.
Tangiers officials can and should stop killing dogs. With enough pressure from around the world, we can get them to respect both animal rights and children’s rights, as children are more and more exposed to this live cruelty.
Sign now, and share this widely – we’ll make sure both the Moroccan ministry of Interior and the municipality of Tangiers hear our call loud and clear.
