1. Brain fed beef: There are strict restrictions in the EU on feeding waste meat from abattoirs back to livestock. That’s how mad cow disease happens, but thanks to the massive agribusiness lobby this recipe for disaster is still allowed in the US
2. Steroid-pumped pork: US farmers use growth promoting steroids in pigs to increase meat mass, and antibiotics in cows to produce more milk. Both practices are banned in the EU on the grounds of harm to human health.
3. Liver failure milk: US regulations allow up to twenty times more of a cancer-causing toxin in milk and baby food as well as nuts dried fruit and cereals than the EU. Aflatoxins cause liver damage and cancers as well as nerve damage.
4. Chlorine chicken breast: In the US chicken carcasses are routinely ‘washed’ in strong chlorinated water to remove bacteria. This isn’t allowed in the EU as it encourages lax hygiene rather than good welfare and hygiene practices on the farm.
5. Asthma bread - it's legal to use Azodicarbonamide to bleach flour in the US, even though it is known to cause asthma.

It’s a nightmare scenario that could put chlorine-washed chicken, hormone-pumped meat and liver failure meat on you local supermarket shelves. That’s why we’re calling on giant food retailers to commit to maintaining at least EU standards in food and farming -- whatever happens with brexit.
