On Sunday, tens of thousands of far-right demonstrators stormed Brazil’s congress, and it was all possible thanks to companies like Meta and YouTube which allowed posts inciting violence and calls for a military coup to be amplified to millions of people. Our research and campaigning documenting this helped push the Brazilian government to implement tougher action against the tech platforms. Now it’s time to push the platforms directly to block pro-coup content and take stronger measures to protect our democracies.
