On Sunday, tens of thousands of far-right demonstrators stormed Brazil’s congress, and it was all possible thanks to companies like Meta and YouTube which allowed posts inciting violence and calls for a military coup to be amplified to millions of people.
Our research and campaigning documenting this helped push the Brazilian government to implement tougher action against the tech platforms. Now it’s time to push the platforms directly to block pro-coup content and take stronger measures to protect our democracies.

We warned the platforms that Brazil’s far-right online army was planning an attack but big tech chose to make massive profits instead.
Brazilian authorities are already taking swift action and have shown the courage to confront big tech, but the platforms will try to whitewash their role. We want them to block and remove the profiles and channels of whoever promotes a military coup across their platforms
