More than 2,000 immigrant children have been yanked from their parents' arms at the U.S. border by the Trump administration, and the number of kids in custody could reach 30,000 by the end of the summer.
Children as young as 18 months old are being herded into detention centers, where they are not allowed to be held or comforted by shelter workers. Their parents have no idea where they're being taken or how long they will be gone.
Trump's heinous family separation policy depends on private contractors like General Dynamics to do their dirty work. If we can pressure these private contractors to stop accepting contracts that involve family separation, we can stop the policy in its tracks.
We're working with Sleeping Giants to take General Dynamics and MVM, two of the biggest contractors handling migrant children, to demand they stop implementing Trump's family separation policy.
MVM's Homeland Security devision said that "the safety of those in our care is the most important thing for our company."
If MVM really cared about the safety of these migrant children, it wouldn't assist in taking them away from their parents.
Many of the children taken from their families have traveled hundreds of miles to escape unimaginable violence, only to face new terrors in the U.S. Nearly 1,500 boys are housed in a closed-down big box store. Children are sleeping on cots crowded into rooms in military bases and detention centers. Some are shipped off to foster families in states thousands of miles away.
And once children are separated from their parents there is no clear system in place to reunite the families. Some parents have been deported while the children are kept in the U.S. There is no way for parents to keep in contact with their children, and a Justice Department official has admitted that the government does not try to connect families once they're divided.
This terror is being facilitated by General Dynamics and MVM. Without contractors like those, the Trump administration would not have the capacity to relocate these children and house their parents.
That's why we're joining with Sleeping Giants to put pressure on these corporations to stop supporting Trump's awful family separation policy.
Now we need your help to keep going.
