Britain’s bees could be under a new threat. This time from pro-business, pro free market Environment Secretary, Andrea Leadsom.
Andrea Leadsom is a fiercely pro-big business minister. She used to work in the City, and has backed fracking across England when she was an energy minister. One can only imagine what position she will take when lobbied by Bayer to back bee-killing neonics.
But, there is hope. While she’s still settling into her new role, reading her briefing documents and holding meetings, we have a chance to influence her thinking on bee killing neonics. If thousands of us demand she listens to the growing body of evidence, that neonics are in part to blame for rapidly declining bee populations, maybe we can force her to take a strong stance.
Can you take 2 mins to tell Andrea Leadsom to back Britain's bees?
Under David Cameron’s administration, Britain’s bees were in peril. Minister after minister refused to support a permanent ban on neonics. Some going as far to support the views of biased Bayer. We can’t let this happen again.
Andrea Leadsom now has an opportunity to show that the rhetoric of the new government will be at the heart of what she does at DEFRA. Will she choose to back her buddies in big business, or will she do what’s right to save Britain’s bees?
We’ve been at the heart of the global campaign to save the bees. We’ve fought and won to get neonics removed from the shelves at Home Depot and Lowe’s. Together, our people-powered petition is giant 350,000 people strong. We’re the little guys defending the even littler guys in the face of big bad Bayer, but we’re proving we can take them on - and win! Now we need to make sure we nip this new threat to our bees in the bud.
