Let's turn up the heat on Barclays' decision to back fracking. It owns fracking firm Third Energy which is poised to frack the beautiful North Yorkshire village of Kirby Misperton. Let's call on Barclays to pull out and not put local communities and our environment at risk.

Dear Branch Manager, I am writing to you to express my concern that Barclays is funding fracking in the UK, and to ask that Barclays ends plans to frack in North Yorkshire. As my local branch manager, I’d like to request you pass these concerns onto the appropriate person. Barclays owns fracking company Third Energy, which plans to drill 19 wells across the district of Ryedale, North Yorkshire, some of which are close to people’s homes. The company was permitted to frack at one site earlier this year, though the decision is currently subject to Judicial Review. Fracking in this beautiful area of the country carries a wide range of risks including: • Risks to groundwater from the chemicals injected into the ground and extracted as part of the fracking process. • Risks to surface water, particularly given the area's location in a flood risk area and as an area renowned for its pristine rivers. • Risks to the community from increased traffic levels and noise impacting on mental and physical health. • Risks to the local economy which is largely dependent on agriculture, tourism and fishing. • Risks to the global climate from the further extreme extraction of dirty fossil fuels. Barclays' stated purpose is to "help people achieve their ambitions - in the right way" -- is funding fracking consistent with that goal? A new SumOfUs petition asking to you stop backing fracking has over 42,000 signatures already, and earlier this year you received 9,000 signatures from Friends of the Earth at Barclays’ AGM requesting the company cease funding fracking. The people of Ryedale in North Yorkshire want to live in a clean, pollution-free community which is kept that way for future generations. Please ensure that they can do this by promising that Third Energy will not frack in North Yorkshire. Yours sincerely Name _______________________________________ Address ____________________________________ Postcode ___________________________________
