The plastic bags that Woolworths gives away at the checkout are harming our rivers and oceans. They are polluting the environment, breaking down and harming turtles, dolphins, and seabirds.
Woolworths could get away with doing nothing when its competitors weren’t acting. Until now - Aldi supermarkets have never given away free plastic bags. Aldi recently stated their support for “a complete ban on single-use plastic bags.”
Woolworths’ free plastic bags are wreaking havoc in the environment. Meanwhile, Aldi is showing just how easy it is to solve the problem. It’s time for Woolworths to step up.
Ask Woolworths: support a plastic bag ban.
Up to 80% of all litter in our oceans is made of plastic. And the CSIRO predicts that ninety-nine in a hundred seabirds are expected to have eaten marine plastics by 2050. Woolworths’ plastic bags aren’t just an ugly sight in our suburbs and gutters - they are destroying the health of our oceans and marine life.
Woolworths needs to know that we expect better. Aldi, Woolworths’ competitor, is leading the way on banning plastic bags. Woolworths needs to see that its customers want action - or that they are willing to take their shopping elsewhere.
Woolworths wants to be seen as fresh, green, and sustainable. They want our loyalty. But if they really are sustainable, and if they really want our loyalty, Woolworths must take steps to protect our environment.
Woolworths: support a ban on plastic bags.
If we can put enough pressure on Woolworths, it will mean a world of difference for our oceans and waterways.
