Son crime ? Avoir tweeté son soutien à certaines réformes et à la libération de prisonniers politiques.

Salma Al-Shehab risque de passer les trois prochaines décennies en prison pour ces tweets, mais nous avons la possibilité de l'aider.

Dans deux semaines, l'Arabie Saoudite accueillera le sommet mondial de l'intelligence artificielle (IA), au cours duquel des dizaines d'éminents technologues et investisseurs interviendront. S'ils se joignent à notre appel à la libération de Salma et menacent de boycotter l'événement, cela pourrait obliger le royaume à revoir sa décision scandaleuse à l'encontre de Salma.

Salma, hygiéniste dentaire et doctorante vivant au Royaume-Uni, a été arrêtée en Arabie saoudite l'année dernière alors qu'elle était en vacances. Elle a été placée à l'isolement pendant 285 jours et soumise à de longs interrogatoires sans pouvoir être représentée par un avocat. Salma est une musulmane chiite - un groupe minoritaire en Arabie saoudite qui fait l'objet d'une immense répression.

Les accusations portées contre Salma relèvent de lois draconiennes du royaume en matière d'antiterrorisme et de cybercriminalité qui criminalisent le droit à la liberté d'expression.

Mais le cas de Salma est susceptible de faire l'objet d'un appel devant la Cour suprême, ce qui signifie que, si nous pouvons exercer une pression suffisante sur l'Arabie Saoudite, nous pourrions voir Salma libérée.

L'Arabie Saoudite se soucie profondément de l'avis de l'industrie des technologies et cherche à être un leader en matière d'IA. La simple menace d'un boycott de l'événement par les plus grands spécialistes mondiaux de l'IA pourrait provoquer une onde de choc dans le pouvoir saoudien.
