In the untouched outback of Australia, a coal company is starting to dig a coal mine so big and so dirty that if completed, it will seal our fate to catastrophic climate change.
Coal giant Adani is doing everything it can to build what will be one of the world’s largest coal mines in the world. It has ignored the objections of traditional owners, scientists and conservationists, and squeezed through every legal loophole it can.
There is hope. If we can stop Adani from getting insurance for the mine, we can stop this disastrous project in its tracks.
Which is where you come in. Public pressure has already forced dozens of global insurers to rule out insuring the Adani mine.
But multi-billion dollar insurer AIG is staying silent. That’s why we need your voice -- because if enough people like you speak up, together we can force AIG to reject Adani’s mine too.
At peak capacity, Adani’s Carmichael coal mine would pump out more carbon than Norway, Sweden, Greece and Chile.
If built, it would ruin any chance we have of protecting the Great Barrier Reef -- home to some of the most spectacular sea life on our planet like vivid corals, turtles, and fish.
Thousands of people are working in solidarity across Australia to stop this mine -- led by the Wangan and Jagalingou traditional owners who are fighting the project in Australian courts and the UN.
But they need your support. If we can get the world’s major insurers to stop this dirty coal mine, we can protect our climate and the Reef’s future.
Incredible members like you have shown that public pressure works! Over 60,000 SumOfUs members cornered global insurer Liberty Mutual into backing off from Adani’s mine.
You made phone calls, stormed them on Twitter, and donated to park a flashy mobile billboard right outside their head office in the U.S. Together we won!
AIG is a well-known insurance brand that cares about its image. Public pressure could make it cave too. But we need people like you to create enough noise to make sure this coal stays in the ground.
