The Great Barrier Reef is the ancient home of some of the most spectacular sea life on our planet.
But Adani is closer than ever before to destroying life on the Reef as we know it. Just last month it secured all the government approvals it needs to build one of the world’s largest coal mines on the shores of our Reef.
There is hope: to build this mine Adani needs insurance. That’s where you come in.
A massive effort led by members like you and our partners already forced insurer Liberty Mutual to publicly rule out insuring Adani’s dirty mine! Because of public pressure, dozens of global insurers won’t back this mine.
But multi-billion dollar insurer AIG is staying silent. That’s why we need your voice -- because if enough people like you speak up, together we can force AIG to reject Adani’s mine too.
Our Reef is facing full collapse. It would buckle if Adani’s mine gets built and we keep burning coal.
At peak capacity, this one mine would pump out more carbon than Norway, Sweden, Greece and Chile.
And to export the coal it digs up, Adani plans to dredge millions of tonnes of sea bed right on the Great Barrier Reef coastline.
Thousands of people are working in solidarity across Australia to stop this mine -- led by the Wangan and Jagalingou traditional owners who are fighting the project in Australian courts and the UN.
But they need your support. If we can get the world’s major insurers to stop Adani, we could help protect the rights of traditional owners, our Reef, and our climate.
Incredible members like you have shown that public pressure works! Over 60,000 of you worked to corner Liberty Mutual into backing off from Adani’s mine.
You made phone calls, stormed them on Twitter, and donated to park a flashy mobile billboard right outside their head office in the U.S. Together we won!
AIG is a well-known insurance brand that cares about its image. Public pressure could make it fold too. But we need people like you to create enough pressure to make sure this coal stays in the ground.
Will you demand AIG choose the Reef over Adani’s coal mine?
