A Day Without Immigrants mobilized people all across the United States, and made a powerful statement about the tremendous positive impact of immigrants on the American workforce. Many business leaders even boldly stood in solidarity with their workers, closing their doors and encouraging them to stay home.
While some business owners were supportive of their staff, one company in Lexington, South Carolina chose tyranny instead. Encore Boat Builders LLC callously fired 21 employees for their participation citing no/call no/show as the reason.
Stand for their right to protest. Demand that Encore Boat Builders reinstate the 21 workers that were fired for their participation in A Day Without Immigrants.
Encore Boat Builders has shamefully contributed to the culture of fear that has permeated the lives of immigrants in the US since election day. Using Trump-like tactics, some employees even received phone calls prior to the day of protest warning them that if they dared miss work-they would lose their job. These brave citizens (many of whom have small children) chose to take a stand and fight for what they believe in. Instead of appreciation; they received termination. We as citizens can make a change and demonstrate that we will not be silenced.
